Khi đi học, có một bài học luôn bị phớt lờ, đó là bài giới thiệu môn học! Thực ra bài nhập môn rất quan trọng, nó sẽ quyết định xem bạn học môn đó như thế nào: học đối phó để lấy điểm, học trang bị kiến thức dùng sau này hay là ….. học cho vui! (vui cũng là một mục đích)
Mở rộng ra trong cuộc sống, trước khi học hay làm một thứ gì đó, hãy nên tìm hiểu và suy nghĩ sâu sắc về mục đích của nó trước tiên! Nếu các bạn còn đang trong độ tuổi đi học, mình rất muốn các bạn suy nghĩ về vấn đề này.

1. Vì sao chúng ta học Tiếng Anh
Tiếng Anh là một môn học, một ngôn ngữ quan trọng bậc nhất trong hội nhập quốc tế. Đối với những bạn thi vào ngành thuộc khối A1, D,… (những ngành “gắn chặt” với Tiếng Anh) hay những bạn đi du học Anh, Mỹ, Canada,… hay học những chương trình đại học, thạc sỹ bằng Tiếng Anh, giỏi hay không giỏi Tiếng Anh quyết định rất nhiều đến sự nghiệp của bạn. Tiếng Anh là một trong những “dụng cụ sinh tồn” của bạn. Bạn nên giỏi Tiếng Anh khá toàn diện. Các bạn là những đối tượng được đòi hỏi yêu cầu cao hơn mặt bằng chung.
Vấn đề ở đây là bản thân cái khái niệm “gắn chặt với Tiếng Anh” chỉ là tương đối. Khả năng cao là ở ngành nào, việc giỏi Tiếng Anh cũng sẽ giúp kiếm được nhiều hơn, chỉ khác là con đường “gián tiếp” hay “trực tiếp” mà thôi!
Khi đánh giá những bạn học ngành kỹ thuật: “Có giỏi ngoại ngữ hay không?” là một tiêu chí quan trọng trung bình (mặt bằng chung là vậy). Nhưng khi bạn học ngành kinh tế thì khác. Các nhà tuyển dụng đánh giá bạn giỏi hay không, ngoại ngữ là một tiêu chí quan trọng hơn nhiều. Kể cả khi bạn làm cho các công ty Việt Nam. Hệ luỵ là các bạn học kỹ thuật luôn có một tấm bình phong hoàn hảo cho việc lười học ngoại ngữ của mình.
Tiếng Anh hay ngoại ngữ nói chung là một “cánh cửa“
Bạn có biết cuộc Duy Tân Minh Trị ở Nhật Bản? Kỳ tích này đã đưa nước Nhật trở thành một đế quốc khiến các cường quốc Phương Tây phải kiêng nể. Điều này không thể có được nếu không có những người con dân Nhật đã đi du học mang tri thức về xây dựng đất nước.
Học ngoại ngữ chính là cánh cửa để ta vươn ra xa hơn, cao hơn. Bạn là một người Việt Nam nhưng bạn giỏi ngoại ngữ, bạn học được một thứ gì đó hay ho ở nước ngoài, và ở Việt Nam bạn lại trở thành một ông trùm về thứ đó =)).
Tiếng Anh là một “cánh cửa” cực kì quan trọng. Mình là một người học ngành cơ khí, trong trường mình, yêu cầu ra trường phải có bằng Tiếng Nga B1. Mình không cần phải có bằng tiếng Anh để ra trường, nhưng mình vẫn học, vì đơn giản là tiếng Anh cho mình thêm một cánh cửa lớn để tiếp cận tới nguồn tri thức rộng lớn hơn. Mình không quan tâm quá trình độ tiếng Anh của mình ở đâu, thua ai hay hơn ai, mình chỉ quan tâm là nó phục vụ cuộc sống và công việc của mình như thế nào.
2. Học Tiếng Anh có thể giúp ta kiếm thêm bao nhiêu?
Tất nhiên đó không phải là tất cả. Nhưng đây là động cơ của đa số chúng ta =)). Xã hội ngày nay rất thực dụng. Cho dù là công việc của bạn chẳng liên quan lắm (bề ngoài là như vậy), chẳng giao tiếp hay sử dụng Tiếng Anh trong công việc. Thì bạn cũng đừng quên, nó giúp bạn một công cụ cực kỳ mạnh mẽ để học tập. Khi bạn giỏi hơn thì có khả năng cao bạn sẽ được trả cao hơn tương xứng với năng lực.
Hồi xưa khi tham gia Olympic Tin học sinh viên, có nhiều thuật toán khó mà mình không biết phải giải quyết như thế nào. Tình cờ là khi lang thang trên Youtube thì mình đã tìm được phương pháp giải quyết rất thú vị tới từ các anh coder Ấn Độ. Dù là accent của họ khá khó nghe, mình vẫn hiểu được nếu nghe kĩ. Đổi lại nếu mình không biết Tiếng Anh thì sao? Con đường xử lý vấn đề sẽ khó khăn hơn rất nhiều!
Với một góc nhìn thực dụng, chúng ta cần cân đối thời gian và nguồn lực. Giả sử nhu cầu của bạn chỉ là đọc sách Tiếng Anh thôi, hãy tập trung vào điều đó, vì nó thiết thực với bạn nhất. Nếu bạn hơi kém các kỹ năng kia hơn một chút, hãy cầu tiến và tiến bộ, nhưng cũng đừng lo lắng quá.
Ở trường của mình, có những thầy là giáo sư, tiến sỹ. Thực sự mà nói chuyên môn của họ không cần phải bàn, nhưng mà Tiếng Anh của các thầy có giỏi hay không thực sự khá là khó để nói! Các thầy có thể đọc và dịch, hiểu tài liệu, sách nước ngoài một cách dễ dàng nhưng khi nói giao tiếp bình thường thì các thầy cũng tự nhận là: “Thầy nói Tiếng Anh như Tiếng Việt vậy” (Vinglish :v)
Một thầy giáo hơn mình 8 khoá tuy trẻ tuổi nhưng đã làm được rất nhiều điều tuyệt vời nhờ thầy có khả năng đọc hiểu tài liệu tiếng Anh tốt. Thầy còn đi dịch các tài liệu kỹ thuật tiếng Anh đi kèm các máy móc mới và kiếm được khoản thu kha khá. Nhưng phát âm của thầy thật sự rất Việt Nam =)).
Bạn biết đấy vẫn có người chê cười Tiếng Anh của các thầy giáo của mình. Nhưng mấy thầy đâu bận tâm chứ, đi hội thảo mấy thầy vẫn nói Tiếng Anh một cách bình thường, dõng dạc. Mấy thầy mà rụt rè nói lý nhí thì họ lại càng không hiểu ấy chứ. Nhưng đáng ngạc nhiên là những người bản xứ tiếp xúc với phát âm của người nước ngoài nhiều thì họ cũng không có nhiều vấn đề đối với việc nghe phát âm sai. Kiểu nghe riết rồi quen chăng :v.
3. Thực dụng là một cách học tiếng Anh hiệu quả và dễ dàng hơn cho bạn
Ai cũng muốn mình là một siêu sao Tiếng Anh như Khánh Vy, Thảo Tâm. Thật sự rất cool khi đạt đến trình độ như vậy. Nhưng khi bạn đã không còn trẻ, nguồn lực thời gian của bạn đã phải san sẻ cho việc kiếm tiền, tốt hơn là nên thực dụng một tí!
Những thầy giáo mình nói ở trên, các thầy thuộc thế hệ cũ hơn. Từ nhỏ các thầy đã không có được một nền tảng tốt nhất, có những lỗi Tiếng Anh đã theo các thầy hàng chục năm và không ai sửa. Mình may mắn có một nền tảng từ nhỏ tốt hơn, nhưng vẫn có xu hướng giống như các thầy, khi mình chú trọng kỹ năng nghe, đọc hiểu và phần nào là viết hơn so với kỹ năng nói. Mình không thích cảm giác ngồi luyện phát âm mỗi ngày cho lắm, nhưng lại rất hào hứng khi học từ vựng chẳng hạn, vì điều đó giúp mình đọc được nhiều sách và tài liệu hơn.
Đối với mình cách học hiệu quả nhất là vào thẳng vấn đề. Ví dụ như muốn đọc tài liệu tiếng Anh chuyên ngành, bạn không cần phải học ngữ pháp, hay từ vừng tới mức khá mới bắt đầu được. Hãy tiến hành đồng thời cả hai! Vừa học tiếng Anh căn bản, vừa lao thẳng vào đọc tài liệu chuyên ngành. Điều thú vị là mỗi chuyên ngành thường có một lượng tự vựng nhất định, lúc đầu sẽ khó khăn, nhưng khi đọc đi đọc lại nhiều tài liệu bạn sẽ quen với kho từ vựng chuyên ngành dễ dàng.
Đáp ứng những nhu cầu cấp thiết là một cách học khá dễ chịu. Mình đảm bảo là các bạn sẽ học rất vào nếu như có mục đích rõ ràng. Nếu như với chỉ mục đích chung chung là: “học Tiếng Anh rất tốt” thì rất nhiều bạn sẽ …. chẳng bao giờ học.

Biết cân đối, tập trung vào những thứ phục vụ thiết thực cho cuộc sống của mình trước là một phương pháp tiếp cận học tiếng Anh khá ổn cho những người đã không còn quá trẻ và còn nhiều thời gian để học. Hãy học Tiếng Anh theo cách của riêng bạn. Cầu toàn nhiều khi khiến chúng ta mất nhiều hơn được!
